About the Tour

A motorcycle tour through Central Italy is a memorable experience in itself — the beauty of the landscape and the quality of the roads are fantastic, comparable to the Alps but far less traveled. Doing it on a vintage BMW is something else entirely.

The four bikes on this tour are the stuff of legend among classic motorcycle enthusiasts: a 1958 BMW R50, a 1967 BMW R69S, and two BMW R60/2s from 1968 and 1969 — all in perfect mechanical condition with fresh tires and tubes. Each participant rides all four motorcycles during the tour, a rare opportunity to feel the subtle differences between models that aficionados argue about endlessly.

Your tour leader is Alfredo Massini — for over twenty years the owner of one of Rome’s most respected classic BMW repair shops, and THE reference for vintage BMW riders in Rome and Central Italy. When he sold the Rome shop, he opened a new workshop in the small town of Rieti — the exact geographical center of Italy, and the base from which this tour departs. Alfredo knows these machines at a level most mechanics never reach, and his deep knowledge of the surrounding roads and territory makes him the ideal guide for six days through the mountains, hilltowns, and wine country of Central Italy.

Day 0: Landing at Rome Fiumicino Airport and shuttle to the hotel downtown. Meet & Greet and Welcome Dinner
Day 1: 1h 30′ northbound shuttle to Rieti — a Roman-era city sitting at the exact geographical center of Italy — where we meet Alfredo, the owner and Tour Leader, and the bikes. First loop ride to the Cascate delle Marmore (Marmore Falls), one of the most dramatic waterfalls in Europe, originally engineered by the Romans in 271 BC. Overnight in a hotel in Rieti
Day 2: Mountain loop ride to Castelluccio di Norcia — a medieval village perched at 1,452 meters above sea level in the Monti Sibillini National Park, overlooking the vast Piano Grande plateau. One of the most stunning destinations in all of Central Italy.
Day 3: Transfer across great twisty roads to Siena, overnight there
Day 4: Free day. Visit Siena — the UNESCO-listed medieval city, the Piazza del Campo, and the magnificent Duomo. Explore the cantinas.
Day 5: Loop ride through the Chianti Classico region — rolling hills, vine-covered slopes, and cypress-lined roads between Siena and Florence. Overnight in Siena
Day 6: Transfer across more twisty roads back to Rieti, overnight there
Day 7: Mountain ride to Leonessa — a quiet medieval hill town tucked into a high valley in the Lazio Apennines. Shuttle to Rome and Farewell Dinner
Day 8: Depart Rome for home or another adventure, until we meet again!
