About the Tour
The French Alps are not the Alps most people picture when they plan a driving trip to Europe — and that is precisely what makes them worth the detour. This tour heads southwest from Milan, away from the familiar Italian passes, into a region defined by the roads the Tour de France has used for a century to separate the strongest climbers from the rest.
What distinguishes the French Alps from their Italian and Swiss counterparts is variety. No other Alpine tour in the Blue Strada fleet covers this much geographic range: a limestone canyon that drops 700 meters to turquoise water, the highest asphalted road in the Alps, a UNESCO-listed fortress city, the passes where cycling legends were made, and a return through the Italian lake district. The scenery changes character every day — from Mediterranean Provence to high-altitude moonscape to medieval hilltop town — while the driving stays consistently extraordinary throughout.
The finest single day arrives toward the end: the Col du Galibier, the Col de l’Iseran — the highest alpine pass in the Alps at 2,764 meters — and Mont Blanc on the horizon. Most guests describe it as the best single day of driving they have ever had. The schedule below shows exactly how it unfolds.
