About the Tour
Starting from Bilbao in the Basque region of Northern Spain and ending in Milan in Northern Italy, this tour is a fantastic journey through two stunning mountain ranges, the Pyrenees and the Alps, with the beautiful Provence region in between.
This unforgettable driving experience with its breathtaking series of mountain roads, hairpins, and passes, includes the Iseran, which is the highest pass in Europe at 2770 m.
And on the tourist side, the 2000-year-old Roman bridge-acqueduct Pont du Garde and the town of Avignon with its Palace of the Popes are both UNESCO sites and symbols of the great heritage of European history, while the Airbus factory speaks for modern Europe.
Schedule
Note: The schedule and destinations may vary from tour date to tour date due to incremental tour enhancements or scheduling adjustments.
- Day 0: Welcome to Bilbao, the town that hosts the incredible Guggenheim Museum designed by the famous architect Frank O. Gehry. Meet new friends and your tour leader, before enjoying a Spanish welcome dinner.
- Day 1: We leave Bilbao and after a fast highway transfer we reach the Pyrenees range. We climb the Portalet and the Aubisque passes to enter France and we reach our hotel in Argelès-Gazost, a renown spa town and gateway to the Pyrenees National Park.
- Day 2: Driving through the Pyrenees National Park and we climb other important passes of this magnificent range: Tourmalet (2115 m, the highes pass on the French side), Aspin, Peyresourde, and Pourtillon France then we leave the mountains and head to the town of Toulouse.
- Day 3: We start the day with a visit of the Airbus factory! Then, a relaxing highway leg leads us to the Pont du Gard, an amazing and perfectly preserved Roman bridge (UNESCO heritage site) surrounded by a very pleasant park, perrfect for a relaxed and easy walk in nature.
- Day 4: A free day to enjoy the town of Avignon, including a visit to the Palace of the Popes, the greatest gothic building in the world,UNESCO heritage site.
- Day 5: A relaxing highway transfer allow us to reach the incredible Gorges du Verdon. At 25 km in length, it is Europe’s biggest canyon. We we stay that night in Castellane.
- Day 6: The first of two days in the French Alps. We start to know this wild and fascinating side of the Alps by climbing the Vars Pass and the Izoard Pass (2361 m) towards our hotel in the spa town of Le Monêtier-les-Bains.
- Day 7: This is a terrific driving day. We start by climbing the fast and magnificent Lautaret and Galibier passes (2642 m) and the Telegraph pass with its fantastic hairpins. Then we drive along the beautiful Maurienne Valley, before the rollercoaster starts again towards the Iseran Pass, the highest in the Alps at 2770 m, and then the Little St. Bernard, where we enter Italy and head to our hotel in Aosta.
- Day 8: Today no more passes, alpine lakes instead. After a relaxing highway transfer, we drive along the Lake Orta before crossing overland to Lake Maggiore where we stop for lunch in the scenic village of StresaAfterward we head to our final destination: Milan, the economic Capital of Italy.
- Day 9:Depart Milan for home or another adventure. Happy travels until we meet again!
